Artist's Comments

This is my court gown that I will be making for myself to replace my black and teal gown that doesn't fit me anymore. Hopefully this one will look more authentic and period. I'm crossing my fingers that my sewing machine starts to work appropriately because (although it is authentic) I really don't want to make this entirely by hand...especially because I'll be making the Blue one for my best friend as well ----> [link]

Maybe it is just the colors, but this really says "hunting gown" to me. I don't know if you would have access to the materials or if your machine could handle it, but some brown or burgundy leather accents in the trim and guarding could be really cool.

My machine would die but I could do it by hand. I've worked with leather before and have a few needles that work decently with it. When you say hunting gown, what do you mean in particular?

I can't think if a good definition other than to say a gown that would be worn while hunting or traveling. Sometimes they have a little less ornamentation or different embelishments. There are only two hunt pictures I can find off the top of my head, and they are quite similar. [link] [link] Just a thought. The sketch is really spiffy.

Oh okay that's what I thought you meant but I wasn't sure. I like the idea, but I wanna go to loomcraft first. Fabric gives me all the inspiration. I really like the pictures. I think you are right. It does fit.

I had good luck at Bazaar in Waukesha/Brookfield as well. It might be worth a look on the way to or from Loomcraft. Of course another reason I am partial is it is practically in my back yard.

Ohhh Bazaar huh? I will have to stop. It is always good to have more fabric choices. I went to Fabric Gallery in Oconomowoc the other day, but a lot of there stuff is very modern designs.

Your concept design is really well thought out and the colors are awesome. Any thoughts to what fabric you're thinking of using?
:iconatalaia-leafsong:
The only thing I've really decided is that the dark brown will probably be a silk or velvet..other than that I haven't found the fabric in the colors I want. It seems like the chocolate brown isn't in style this year. *sigh* but I am going shopping in Chicago next weekend so hopefully by then I will have found what I am looking for.

I thought velvet instantly when I saw it. I love the chocolate brown idea, it should be in fashion always I think. I'm sure you could find some in Chicago, it's a big city.
